So... The world benefits from the preservation of this. Is there an organized effort to simply buy it up and preserve it - from a global perspective? Yvonne Chouinard and his cronies effectively did that to create Patagonia National Park. They accomplished it despite government distrust and interference in both Chile and Argentina.

FYI - This grabbed me and I read through it, despite my overflowing IN. That's one of two substacks this week.

Hi David, I'm not aware of any efforts to privately buy parts of the Amazon for conservation purposes, as Doug Tompkins (best friend of Yvonne Chouinard) did in Chile. Tompkins eventually succeeded in creating several National Parksโ€”with the help of his wife, after he died in an accidentโ€”but yes, they faced resistance from the government, ranchers, utilities companies, and every other interest bent on exploiting the land for economic gain.

Doug Tompkins is one of my heroes.
