Another great article. I appreciate all the effort to explain these topics and bring attention to the issues. In reading this article, it dawned on me that sustainability is not a new thing, American Indians practiced this by not taking more than they needed at any given time. It is apparent that even today, we as individuals can impact the planet to a great extent. If we only buy produce and meat that we’ll actually eat prior to it going bad, then the farms have a better chance of keeping their soil nutrient rich. If we only use the power we need, remove chargers from outlet when not in use, turn off lights when not in use, use lower wattage lights, make sure outside lights are off during daylight hours, install more efficient lights (such as LEDs) we could use less energy and therefore, save natural resources. This also goes for how you drive, if you drive sensibly and steady, you get better miles per gallon and use less brakes. Sounds like a very small amount but if you multiply this by the population of this planet it adds up. There are new ways to construct buildings, residential and commercial, that consume less energy to heat and cool. Bottom line, we can all take responsibility so that we can all reap the rewards.

I can't agree with all the UN's points. In fact I vigorously disagree with a few.

Ending all poverty everywhere? We have made huge strides in this area, but until people stop being alcoholics and drug addicts it's not going to happen. Further, some people do nothing all day everyday and do not contribute to anyone. They learned this from their parents and friends. They will be poor. It is immoral and wrong for others to give them money because of these causes.

Ensuring equity across all people and all countries - I disagree for the same reasons. When all countries are the same structure relative to bringing out the best in people, then we may expect similar results. For a poor country to not do the work of creating a free society and be ruled by socialism or dictators, and expect the same level of wealth or any other outcome is wrong. If we redistribute wealth from rich countries to poor ones we are encouraging bad behavior. It is also theft from those that earned it. Instead we should focus on measures to encourage more freedom so they may get better outcomes.
