I enjoy your articles because you explain complex topics in a way that's easy to understand. I find myself genuinely intrigued rather than intimidated. In this article especially, I really appreciate the similes and metaphors—they really make it click.
I live in Quebec which has a cap and trade program covering large industrial facilities. While offsets and taxes have a penalty for producing more GHGs, cap and trade has a limit and actually an incentive to produce less. More carrot, less stick. I found some information here https://wci-inc.org/
Cap and trade seems to be a better system than the wild west of offsets, but it's going to take something more to get to a place where human activities don't degrade the environment. A place where active restoration occurs and allows nature (of which we are a part) to thrive.
Enjoyed this! I think you’re spot on. Greenwashing and offsets aren’t the full picture. Reducing everything to a single metric like carbon emissions is not the answer.
Seems like we need a grassroots transformation of consciousness and culture that brings back sacred reciprocity and localization. Economic incentives can only take you so far.
We need to catalyze regenaissance.
And thanks for the Planet Wild recommend. I’m a member now. Super cool project.
